Eppendorf Benchtop Centrifuges

New Life Scientific offers used Eppendorf benchtop centrifuges at affordable prices. They are versatile, user-friendly and a staple in laboratories worldwide for separating biological macromolecules.

These compact yet powerful centrifuges are ideal for various applications, including molecular biology, clinical research and biochemistry, offering high-speed sample processing with a small footprint.

The Benefits of Buying Used

Investing in used Eppendorf lab equipment offers significant benefits, such as:

  • Lower upfront costs: Buying used Eppendorf centrifuges allows you access to premium technology at a much lower price than the original price of a new instrument — freeing up your budget for other critical lab expenses.

  • Reliable performance: Eppendorf centrifuges deliver accurate results with every use and have consistent speed and temperature ranges. The lower weight of their rotors causes less wear and tear on the motor, providing you with long-lasting performance of up to 10 years or more.

Our technicians perform quality assurance tests and evaluations, ensuring you get a reliable benchtop centrifuge to serve your lab for years to come.

Top Models of Eppendorf Benchtop Centrifuges

Here at New Life Scientific, we have an extensive range of used Eppendorf benchtop centrifuges. Our inventory keeps changing, so be sure to browse it regularly to find a centrifuge that meets your needs and budget.

Some popular models we stock include:

  • 5810

  • 5810R

  • 5430

  • 5702

  • 5804

High-speed centrifuges with swing bucket rotors generally reach lower maximum speeds than those with fixed-angle rotors. Eppendorf's high-speed performance centrifuges with a fixed angle rotor can reach speeds of up to 17,500 revolutions per minute (rpm). Models with a swing bucket rotor can achieve speeds of up to 14,500 rpm.

Eppendorf Benchtop Centrifuge FAQs

The choice between the Eppendorf 5430, 5702 and 5804 comes down to the required speed class, sample tube format and application type. For protocols that call for gentle separations at low g-forces, such as mammalian cell pelleting, blood component separation or low-speed sedimentation in tubes up to 100 mL, the 5702 is the appropriate choice.

For small-volume, high-speed work, such as spin-column purification or nucleic acid isolation from 1.5 or 2 mL tubes, the 5430 suits protocols that need speeds well above the 5702's range. The 5804 suits labs that process larger sample volumes at high speed, with capacity for tubes up to 250 mL and support for microplate formats. You should also consider refrigeration.

What distinguishes Eppendorf benchtop centrifuges from other laboratory centrifuge brands is a combination of precision engineering, interface usability and a broad rotor compatibility ecosystem. Their control interfaces let researchers program specific speed, time and acceleration/deceleration profiles for fine-tuned command over each run.

Safety features such as automatic rotor recognition, imbalance detection and lid-locking mechanisms are present on many configurations, adding meaningful operational protection. The rotor portfolio spans a wide range of vessel formats, so a single instrument can often support multiple tube types and plate formats without additional equipment. Eppendorf also offers interchangeable rotors and adapters that extend instrument usefulness as lab needs evolve.

The Eppendorf centrifuge configuration most suitable for microplate spin-downs is a swing-bucket rotor with a microplate adapter, such as the A-2-MTP swing microplate rotor. Microplate spin-downs typically run at low g-forces, often in the range of 200 to 1,000 x g, to collect well contents at the bottom of each well or clear air bubbles before a plate read.

Swing-bucket rotors orient the plate horizontally during a run, which distributes liquid evenly to the bottom of each well. Some fixed-angle microplate rotors are also compatible with spin-down protocols when the centrifuge has the appropriate adapter.

Yes, Eppendorf benchtop centrifuges can be used for routine cell-culture sample separation. Common applications such as pelleting mammalian cells typically require speeds in the range of 300 to 1,200 x g, which falls within the operating range of most Eppendorf benchtop configurations. Swing-bucket rotors work well for these applications because they allow tubes to reach a horizontal position, which promotes even sedimentation and a clearly defined pellet.

For protocols where gentle deceleration matters, the SOFT brake function on models like the 5702 helps reduce pellet disturbance at the end of a run. Refrigerated configurations add value where temperature control is critical to cell viability.

The safety checks to complete before operating an Eppendorf benchtop centrifuge include rotor seating verification, sample balance confirmation and a physical inspection of the rotor and tubes. Confirm that the rotor is fully seated and locked onto the drive shaft, and that any rotor lid or bucket attachments are secured per the manufacturer's specifications.

Inspect the rotor for visible cracks, corrosion or pitting before each use and take any rotor with these signs out of service until a qualified technician can evaluate it. Check tubes and caps for cracks or deformation before you load samples. Match sample pairs in opposing rotor positions by weight, not by volume. You should also confirm that the programmed speed does not exceed the maximum rated RPM for the rotor in use. Some models may include automatic rotor recognition as an additional operational safeguard.
